Our top tips when designing your bespoke internal doors

Designing your bespoke internal doors is a big deal, they are the gateways of your home so they need to be carefully created.

1. Door Height

Door height is important because of your ceiling heights, if you pick 1981mm or 2040mm doors with 3m ceiling its going to look like something out of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. We make doors from UK standard size up to and over 3m tall so can account for any ceiling height in any luxury home.

2. Door finish

Another really important decision because you either match the internal door finish to other elements in the home or contrast them. The type of door finish needs to be considered as well, whether it is a natural wood veneer in a matt finish or a higher sheen level. A stained veneer can be picked and we often we get asked to match a flooring finish to the doors. Finally a paint finish can be used from RAL colours or bespoke colours from other popular paint brands such as Farrow & Ball and Little Greene.

3. Door Design

We would say this falls into 3 categories, modern, traditional and a mix of traditional & modern for example our https://www.luxodoors.com/product-page/2pfinl which has a traditional panel layout but incorporates a modern inlay detail. It doesn't matter if the house type is a super sleek modern home or a Georgian style mansion we can make a internal door design to compliment any house design.

4. Door hardware

Not just important for the functionality of the door but these items are critical to tying in the whole door design, if you have an art deco style beading on the door then a stepped door handle design would compliment this. For a classic traditional feel you can go for a curvy bolection bead and a colonial lever handle design. The door thickness can also affect your door hinge size because we can do 35mm, 40mm, 44mm and 54mm door thickness so this is an important consideration especially if you have a mix of fire & non-fire doors in the home.

5. Glazed doors

These doors generally are in the most important parts of the home so need to be carefully considered. If the solid internal doors are a traditional design then the glazing can match the panel proportions or can contrast completely e.g fully glazed doors to maximise light in certain areas. If modern doors are required then our lattice doors can be designed to create something truly unique and make a statement, see more here www.luxodoors.com/lattice-doors . For non-fire rated doors we can also use different types of glass to create an impact e.g tinted glass, Opaque glass and sandblasted glass.

6. A door but not a door

Sounds weird right? but bear with us. As we can manufacture very large sizes these can be used in other ways outside the norm. Imagine using a door as a sliding wall to open up and close off your grand entertaining areas. A more permanent feature could be wall dividers which are floor to ceiling mounted and close off a space such as a snug for example. Mirrored doors can also be used to help with the function of the room which is perfect in master dressing rooms, master ensuites and powder rooms, check them out here https://www.luxodoors.com/inset-mirrored-doors
